11/28/2023 0 Comments A slice of life![]() ![]() Most anyone can write a Slice of Life, as it’s basically the ins-and-outs of a person's life, but it’s HOW it’s written that will make the difference. For example, if I handed a pencil to an eight year old and said, “Write about what you did this week,” the result would be an extremely downplayed Slice of Life, since a Slice of Life includes things and situations that occur in real life. “Wh- Isn’t it at least a little difficult to write?” A good one, yeah, it is, but in my opinion it’s an easier genre to write in because you yourself can relate to what you’re writing. Uh, if you do, I have defibrillators at the ready! I want to say this, and I hope you don’t keel over from the shock of it. Like I said before, Slice of Life is like taking a virtual- virtual, people, don't go grabbin’ knives now- slice out of life and making the characters in a story deal with or go through certain situations. When characters spring into action or put forth an emotion, reacting to an action they made or another has, it makes it real, yo. GOOD! O-oh wait did it not? - Why you do dis to meh ,_, ![]() Look at that, there’s a relation here! If you take the time to really think about it, you'll see that emotions are a slice of our lives used in anime and manga- but of course not limited to anime and manga.ĭ-did that blow your mind?. ![]() Unless you’re a robot reading this for guidance on your quest to understand and rule humanity, you've felt these emotions before, and Slice of Life characters have as well. Happiness, sadness, anger, envy… the list could on and on. But everyone has experienced emotions present in anime and manga. While the scenes in Slice of Life anime and manga help make up the way the genre works, not everyone has experienced the situations present in them. The struggles we face, such as scoring badly on an exam or losing someone close to you, and the good things we experience, like forming new friendships and meeting goals you set, are all parts of life, and can therefore be included in the Slice of Life genre. We can often relate to these actions and emotions in some way. They don't use a sharp object to literally cut out the section of a life they want to include in their story, so ya know, don't worry, you’re safe- from that anyway >:)įor a more summed up definition, Slice of Life is a genre that encompasses the happenings of a person’s life. Activities and emotions we may experience in our lives are what are put into the Slice of Life genre. School festivals, sports competitions, family life, etc. And yes, it’s literally like the writers cut a virtual slice out of a life, like they would cut a piece of pie, and they then use what they sliced in their story. What exactly IS Slice of Life? I-Is it the act of taking a slice out of someone's life?! :0 In the past I was so confused about what this genre actually encompassed. *Ahem* So here we go~ Presenting the last genre on dat GM radar, it’s. I will not be doing the hokey pokey though, yo. Genre Manual installations focus on a specific genre in anime and manga, break it down, and show you what it's all about.
